My personal experience with the Prolon Fasting Mimicking Diet

As a registered dietitian, I have long been a proponent of fasting and the multitude of scientifically proven positive health benefits associated with it. I have practiced TRE, typically with a 12-hour duration, for some time now. Although admittedly, I have not yet been brave enough to try a PF in fear that I would feel miserable, be unable to function efficiently at work, and have to abstain from social activities.

Final thoughts

Difficult, intense, frustrating, invigorating, surprising, grateful, humbled- all words that I would use to describe my experience using The ProLon 5 day Fasting Mimicking Diet Program. Some days were more challenging than others, but overall, the experience was eye-opening and gratifying. One of the most noteworthy improvements I noticed was my overall level of energy. Day one and two were the most challenging, as my body began to adapt to using its own energy stores for energy, versus using energy from food. Days three through five brought a heightened sense of clarity along with a very steady level of energy, devoid of any dips or “crashes” throughout the day. This steady energy was likely due to the fact that my body was not relying on energy from the food I was consuming and therefore my energy levels were not tied to the rise and fall of my blood sugar levels.    

I completed my fast with a deep appreciation for my body and its ability to adapt and perform under different conditions. Just like our minds and muscles need to be challenged to grow and improve, so does our metabolism.
