Martha & Marly Spoon Review

Martha Stewart is iconically known for turning her passion for all aspects of everyday living – like gardening, decorating, entertaining, crafting, and perhaps most notably cooking – into a thriving business empire that has made her a household name around the world. From numerous best selling books to an award winning television show and magazine. Martha has multiple prominent homewares brands and has been inspiring her audience for decades.

Admittedly, I have been a big Martha Stewart fan for as long as I can remember. As a child of the ’90s, I grew up watching the Martha Stewart Living show, which certainly contributed to my own love for cooking. Since Martha Stewart has been cultivating culinary confidence for generations, it simply makes sense that her latest culinary venture would be in the meal kit delivery space. Martha & Marley Spoon is a meal kit delivery service featuring Martha Stewart’s award-winning recipes and smart cooking techniques.

Is Martha & Marley Spoon right for you?

Pros

  • They offer recipes that are adjusted to certain allergens and diets, including dairy-free, gluten-free, low-carb, vegan, vegetarian, and more! All ingredient and allergen information is provided, so you can make the most informed decision about which meals to select.
  • To encourage sustainability and support a healthy food economy, Martha & Marley Spoon ingredients are harvested only when in season.
  • Martha & Marley Spoon can help you save money and reduce food waste! Pre-portioned ingredients mean you will no longer need to buy that entire bottle of soy sauce and a whole bag of rice for that one stir fry.

Cons

  • They currently do not offer any breakfast, lunch, or dessert options. However their website hints that they may be offering these options in the future by saying, “…Stay tuned! We have some exciting ideas cooking in the test kitchen.”
  • At this point, they do not offer a full menu fitting specific allergies or diets, aside from vegetarian. All of their recipes and ingredients go through the same facility and production process. So even though they continuously do their very best to avoid any cross-contamination, they cannot guarantee against it, which may not make this a good choice if you have a true food allergy.

How much does Martha & Marley Spoon cost?

The price of your Martha & Marley Spoon delivery depends on which plan option you choose and how many meals you select. They offer a 2-person plan or a 4-person plan. The 2-person box is perfect for 2 adults. The 4-person box can feed up to 4 adults, so families with young children will have extra for hungry parents or a little leftover for lunch the next day.

Each plan offers as little as 2 meals per week or as many as 6 meals per week. The more meals you select, the lower the price. Plans range in price from as low as $49.99/week (for 2 meals for 2 people at $10.25/portion) to as high as $162.35/week (for 6 meals for 4 people at $6.39/portion).

Martha & Marley Spoon is pretty comparable in price to other meal kit delivery services. However, if you end up selecting one of the larger plan options, you are most certainly getting the most bang for your buck. The lower prices offered for the larger plans make Martha & Marley Spoon more affordable than most meal kit delivery services.

My personal experience with Marthy & Marley Spoon

As I mentioned, I have been a big Martha Stewart fan for decades, so when I learned that there was a meal kit delivery service that brought her award-winning recipes right to your doorstep, I knew I had to try it! Creating my account and setting up my plan was a breeze. I selected 3 meals per week for the 2-person plan. Knowing that I was only going to be cooking for myself, this provided me with 6 meals in total.

Selecting my meals for the week was probably the most challenging part of my whole experience, only because I wanted to try everything! Due to food sensitivities, I follow a dairy-free and gluten-free diet. This makes some menus very limited. Luckily, that was not the case with the Marley & Martha Spoon weekly menu, as I had multiple dishes to choose from that did not contain either dairy or gluten. Using the information presented on each of the recipes, I was able to make sure I had the necessary kitchen equipment and staple pantry ingredients.

I knew that I was not going to be home when my package was scheduled to be delivered, but I wasn’t worried because I knew it would be well insulated. Upon unloading my recipe box I found each recipe to be organized into dish bags that contained all the ingredients needed for each recipe.

Thanks to the easy-to-follow recipe cards provided, cooking each recipe was a breeze. These cards are the printed version of what you see online when you select your weekly recipes. Each card provided precise instructions with helpful step-by-step photos to make chef-worthy cooking easy.

All three recipes I tried were delicious! My favorite was the Vietnamese Shrimp with Brothy Noodles & Snow Peas second to the Spanish-Style Smoky Cod & Rice Bake with Tomato, Green Beans & Herb Salsa. I found all three recipes to be nutritionally balanced and they were certainly filling! I enjoyed the fact that each recipe provided two servings because I was able to use the leftovers for lunch or dinner the next day and save myself some time in the kitchen. Overall, my experience with Martha & Marley Spoon was excellent and I would recommend it to anyone – whether you’re a raving Martha Stewart fan like myself, or you are simply interested in eating healthier, saving time, or saving money.
