Talkspace vs BetterHelp – similarities

First off, both Talkspace and BetterHelp offer counseling via messaging (text, video, picture, and audio) and live sessions for individuals, couples, and teens. Furthermore, they’re both are supported via mobile, laptop, and desktop.

Next, both platforms have fantastic blog content that has information on a broad range of mental health topics. Check out the blog on both Talkspace and BetterHelp for valuable information!

Neither Talkspace nor BetterHelp is for an urgent crisis or emergency situations. In fact, if you’re in a life-threatening situation, both sites recommend you call 1-800-273-TALK (8255) (a 24 hours hotline) or 911.

Lastly, both platforms provide you with access to licensed mental health professionals, including board-certified psychiatrists. Talkspace has an individual page for psychiatry while BetterHelp has it built into its primary platform.

Talkspace vs BetterHelp – differences

One of the first differences that jumps out is that Talkspace’s pricing is much more transparently advertised on their website. This is not the case with BetterHelp, who requires you to provide more information before accessing pricing.

Another large difference is that live therapy sessions come with all of BetterHelp’s plans. On the other hand, Talkspace’s standard plan does not include live sessions. As a result, you have to upgrade to at least Talkspace’s Premium plan to receive live therapy.

Looking for an online anxiety or depression assessment? Talkspace has both an anxiety test and a depression test on their platform. BetterHelp does not.

Lastly, Talkspace highlights specific partnerships (employers, health plans, employee assistance programs (EAP), and educational organizations) on their website. BetterHelp does on their about page but it’s unclear how those partnerships work.
