Built on the 1-Day Acuvue Moist platform
To start, 1-Day Acuvue Define was released to the US market in 2015. Since it’s built on the 1-Day Acuvue Moist platform, it comes with the comfort, vision, and UV protection of the most prescribed daily contact lens.
Note: You can read our full review on 1-Day Acuvue Moist here.
Like 1-Day Acuvue Moist, this lens contains Laceron Technology and is made of an elastic, inflammation decreasing material with uniquely designed edges. Therefore, this dual-action approach helps keep your lens comfort up and inflammation down! Also, 1-Day Acuvue Define has built-in UV protection that blocks 97% of UVB and 82% UVA rays!
4 uniquely beautiful designs to choose from
Based on a study done at the University of California at Irvine, people who have a darker limbal region (i.e. the border of the iris and white part of the eye) are found to be more attractive.
1-Day Acuvue Define is marketed as a beauty product towards women between the ages of 20 to 40 who wear makeup but are not looking for a traditional colored contact lens. The lens is designed to enhance the contrast and appearance of your limbus, an area that often becomes less defined with age.
Furthermore, 1-Day Acuvue Define is available in 4 unique lens designs:
- Natural Shimmer
- Natural Shine
- Accent Style
- Vivid Style
Upon initial launch, it was also available in the Natural Sparkle design. Unfortunately, this design has since been discontinued in the United States.

When fit with 1-Day Acuvue Define by your eye care professional, you’ll receive a trial box that contains 5 contact lenses for each eye. In fact, Johnson and Johnson Vision has a certificate for a free trial that you can print out and show your eye doctor.
Once your prescription is finalized, these contacts are available for purchase in 30 packs. They were previously available in 90 packs but this has been discontinued. Also, as noted in the name, they are designed for daily wear and should be thrown away at the end of the day. Therefore, they’re NOT approved to be slept in!
Note: If you plan on taking your daily contact lenses out for a nap or to go swimming, we recommend storing them in Biotrue, RevitaLens, or Opti-free Pure Moist contact lens solutions. For more information on contact lens solutions, check out our complete guide!
Does 1-Day Acuvue Define have a lens for astigmatism or presbyopia?
Unfortunately, no. Johnson and Johnson Vision appears to be done with the 1-Day Acuvue Define portfolio as they’ve focused their efforts on expanding the portfolios of other lenses.

Pricing
Regarding the cost, as a general rule, daily contacts tend to be more expensive compared to monthly contacts. Before purchasing them, the best place to look is at your eye doctor’s office. Right now suggested retail for a box of 30 lenses of 1-Day Acuvue Define is $45.

Final thoughts
Built off the 1-Day Acuvue Moist platform, 1-Day Acuvue Define comes with all the benefits of the most popular daily contact lens on the market. The lens provides wearers with a more youthful appearance that essentially makes their eyes pop. However, I do feel the lens would benefit from having a few more designs for medium and light-colored eyes (as 3/4 of the designs are best for dark colored eyes).
Personally, I’m a much bigger fan of natural over artificially manufactured beauty. Therefore, when I first heard about 1-Day Acuvue Define, I thought they would be a huge hit! As you can see from the photos above, these lenses definitely provide contrast and definition to the wearer’s limbus. Also, they’re available in different styles, so you can customize your look.
Unfortunately, this lens hasn’t performed as well as they anticipated in the United States. With this in mind, these lenses have been well received overseas (particularly in Asia). Rumor has it Johnson and Johnson Vision will eventually phase this lens out of the United States market. Personally, I hope they don’t as 1-Day Acuvue Define is very unique and serves an unmet need in the contact lens marketplace.
All things considered, this is a truly unique beauty lens. If you’re looking for a subtle, bold, defining, or vibrant appearance to your eyes (without having to wear colored contact lenses) you should give 1-Day Acuvue Define a try!
