Outstanding breathability

One of the key components to contact lens comfort is the amount of oxygen that passes through the lens material to nourish the front surface of your eye (i.e. oxygen permeability or breathability). In theory, another way of thinking about this is the more breathable the lens, the better the comfort.

With this in mind, Acuvue Oasys 1-Day with HydraLuxe boasts the second most breathable material of any daily contact lens on the market!

HydraLuxe Technology = tear-like moisture

In addition to its incredible breathability, this lens features HydraLuxe Technology that provides an enhanced network of tear-like molecules that mimic and help support a stable, natural tear film. As a result, this helps minimize friction and maintain moisture on the front surface of the eye, reducing the feeling of dry, tired eyes.

Best in class UV protection

Providing 96.1% UVA and >99.9% UVB protection, Acuvue Oasys 1-Day with HydraLuxe delivers one of the highest levels of UV protection available through a daily contact lens. Since exposure to UV radiation is known to cause damage to your eyes, this added protection is a welcomed bonus that sets this lens apart from its competitors.

How much does Acuvue Oasys 1-Day cost?

As mentioned above, these lenses aren’t cheap. Before purchasing them, the best place to look is at your eye doctor’s office. However, if you’re looking to price things out from home, consider checking out contact lens retailers online. Right now a 90 pack of lenses are going for ~ $60-70 a box. Also, don’t forget about registering for the rebate!

Final thoughts

This is a very exciting time to be a contact lens wearer! Within the last few years alone, the contact lens industry has produced some of the most technologically advanced and comfortable contact lenses in a wider array of parameters than ever before.

Personally, I feel the Acuvue Oasys 1-Day with HydraLuxe falls just short of Alcon’s Dailies Total1 in terms of comfort. The Dailies Total1 offers a higher amount of oxygen permeability and has water gradient lens technology to enhance comfort (see our review of Dailies Total1 here).

However, despite my opinion, Johnson and Johnson Vision cites that patients prefer Acuvue Oasys 1-Day with HydraLuxe when compared in a head to head study with the Dailies Total1. Truth be told, if you surveyed the vast majority of eye doctors, you’d get varying results over which lens is best (i.e. they’re both great)!
